Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig on September 21 1982. She is an American actress best known for her role as Shannon Rutherford in ABC TV show Lost. Born in Worthington Ohio, she quit high school to move to Los Angeles with her mother when her parents separated. They were struggling to make ends meet and was offered her first acting role in Rachel's Room's main character. Her portrayal of Martha Moxley, a 15-year-old victim of murder, in the television movie Murder in Greenwich in 2002 earned her nominations for a Young Artist Award. Grace appeared as Shannon Rutherford on the Lost television series in 2004. The show featured her as the principal protagonist for two seasons and won an award for her performance, a Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace was dropped from the series in 2005 to focus on an even more prominent role in movies, and had a role alongside Tom Welling as Kim Mills in the film Taken. In addition, she appeared on screen in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club (both 2007) and opposite Liam Neeson as Kim Mills in Taken in the year 2008. She reprised her role as Kim Mills in Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the lead role Alice in Malice in Wonderland a modern adaptation of Lewis Carroll's book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace returned to Shannon's character on Lost for two episodes, which included the series final. Grace appeared in Californication's 6th season which ran from 2013 until the year 2014. She portrays Faith who's an avid stargazer as well as a socialite. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. She is part of the Gyllenhaal family and is the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. In her teens, she began to work as a small part-time actress for her father and appeared in Donnie Darko with her brother. She then appeared as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal's leading roles in Secretary, a romantic comedy-drama erotico, as well as Sherrybaby (a drama) have earned her nominations to the Golden Globe Award. Following a string of commercially successful movies in 2006 including World Trade Center she received greater recognition for her performance as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). She received a nomination for the award of Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of a single mother in Crazy Heart. Following that she appeared in comedy and dramatic films: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. Other roles she has played include the role of a Secret Service agent in the action thriller White House Down (2013) a musician in the film Frank (2014) as well as her role as the lead in the drama The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). The debut of Gyllenhaal as a filmmaker and writer took place in 2021, with The Lost Daughter, a psychological thriller for which she received an award at the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. The film also received the Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
